Sausalito and the Street Cars

Sorry I am a day late. It was a long day yesterday and I was sick all last night!

We caught the ferry over to Sausalito yesterday morning and enjoyed the little unique town for a couple of hours. We enjoyed lunch at Horizons on the Bay. We both had crabcakes that were out of this world! Then naturally we had to stop at a chocolate shop and eat a huge piece of chocolate cake...yummy!

After that we decided to make the 2 mile walk to Fishermans Wharf where we caught the streetcar to Union Square. This is a must do before you leave San Fran and we did it. Zach was not thrilled about the hour wait but oh well. The funny thing is when we got on the car, I was totally prepared to stand on the inside of the car. The driver had different plans. He kept making me go outside and stand on the outside holding on. This is cool and all but I really didn't care. So needless to say he won. When I jumped on in the two open spots this girl got a major attitude. I almost had to throw down. She sat there and over heard the whole conversation with the attendant and how he was insisting on me standing on the outside. If I heard it once I heard it 20 times, "THIS IS MY WHOLE FAMILY WE WANT TO BE TOGETHER". (she apparently thought that the 6 of them could take up 12 peoples spots.) So in a very SOUTHERN,demanding tone, after explaining it to her 3 times, I said "MAAM, I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HE IS MAKING ME STAND HERE. I WOULD RATHER NOT STAND IN YOUR WAY BUT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET OVER IT." I kid you not, she pouted for a minute and said, this is my whole family. we want to be together. I replied, "GET OVER IT. ITS NOT HAPPENING." Her mother then replied, Kate, I ride this all the time it is okay. She stupid girls mom was from San Fran and she was still throwing a fit....ugh. I was highly irritated and Zach was slightly embarassed.
We jumped off the car and three obnoxious drunks jumped on in our spots. I bet she was begging for me to come back!

We ended the night with a quick trip to The Cheesecake Factory. It was tasty but I was sick so I barely ate. Dont worry all you CF fans, I got cheese cake to go. I dominated it a couple of hours later.

A relaxing day for catching up

We woke up this morning very tired and ready to have a low key day to recover. It all started with watching the Ole Miss baseball game on ESPN. Surely you did not think we would fly to California and forget about our Rebels!

Then we made the trek to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghiradelli Square. We had fun looking around the Wharf and enjoyed lunch at the famous Boudin Bakery. Zach was sure to get the ever popular Clam Chowder and I just stuck to the cute sourdough turtle and salad!

You can not leave without saying hi to the Sea Lions. They were really cutting up today and I caught some of it on film for you.


Next, we headed to the famous Ghiradelli Square where we enjoyed a Gold Rush sundae. What use to be a chocholate factory is now simply a chocolate shop and ice creamery. We did love our sweet treat!

After walking about 6 miles we headed back to the hotel to rest. Needless to say, my rest turned into the rest of the night and here we are. We enjoyed room service and a good nap.

We have big plans for tomorrow.

A little go cart and a big city

Yesterday, we set out on our Go Car tour. I tell you what, this was something else. I have researched these on the Internet (www.gocars.com) for almost a month now and I still was not prepared for what I experienced. First of all, it runs like a four wheeler. Secondly, it is like a mario cart. Thirdly, it is suppose to go only 30 mph. Don't worry ours only did that going down very steep hills. On the upside of those hills. . .not so good. We had to get out and push it. Yes, in the middle of very busy streets. It was slightly mortifying.

We had planned on getting the car for about 3 hours. It is GPS navigated and it tells you every move to make, or at least attempts to. Anyways, you have the option to pull over at several stops to see the views and take pictures. It really was a great way to see the town and if you are ever visiting somewhere that has go cars, you must do it. Zach and I laughed so hard a few times that the people on the streets were laughing. Like the time it would not make it up the hill and the construction workers pushed up! :)

Of course we also had to make a pit stop to see the Sea Lions. Call me uncultured or whatever but dang they are HUGE. I could not believe it. They stink, make crazy noise and attract tons of people.

Last night we went to Alcatraz. I have been looking forward to this for a while and I was not let down. It is so amazing being in there and hearing the stories. We did the audio tour which was navigated by actual inmates and officers. It was not scary like we had heard but I will say it was kinda eerie. I really can't go into detail and even do justice so I will just show you some pictures.

Now that I am typing our update I don't feel like we did a ton yesterday but boy we were Exhausted. Yes, with a capital E.

Welcome to San Francisco

Three layovers later, Zach and I made it to the Minneapolis airport. Our connecting flight was to leave at 11:47 am and our delayed Memphis flight pulled into the gate at 11:40. Just as my luck would have it, our connecting flight left early. We missed our flight and they had our new information at the terminal when we got off. I was pretty upset because this cut out half of our day in San Francisco that I had already planned to utilize. Oh well at least we got on a flight before the 9 pm flight!

A few jumps, jolts and falls later we arrived at SFO. The weather is awesome. I am sure it will kick in and be cool in few days! I had already planned our transportation to the airport so all we had to do was grab our bags and go. As it always happens, everyone crowds around the baggage claim like a bunch of vultures. All eyes fixed on the non-moving machine just praying our bags would hurry up! That is when I was FURIOUS! The Delta attendant had a bag from his office that he started to sling onto the machine and I said, "Zach that looks like ours". The man kindly replied, "Mr and Mrs. King?". "um, yes", I said. Then he lets us have this news, "Your piece of luggage came with the 1:45 flight and I have been holding it for you. You have two more pieces on this flight". Then naturally, you can guess what I said, "You have GOT TO BE KIDDING Me"! So in a nutshell, our luggage made it on the original flight that OBVIOUSLY had not really left yet and they were just being mean and not letting us on! Ugh, airlines. . .at least we are here.

We checked into the hotel, which is very nice! I am proud of my planning. . . Thus far. As you can imagine we were a little travel weary and really wanted to eat something local, quick, and good. This is when the concierge man told us to go to Chinatown and eat at House of NanKing.

Alright someone in Oxford did tell me this place is really good but come on, Chinatown? I was a tad bit nervous but we headed out. Without a lot of food details, Zach already said it has ruined all Chinese for him. It was the best thing EVER! It was fresh, white meat, no MSG, and so unique. Nevermind, I am giving you the details. We had sesame chicken with sweet potatoes, fried rice- no egg please, and egg rolls! We ate every last bit because as Zach put it to me, we must take advantage of good food. The dining experience was an experience in itself. Picture this. . .a restaurant full of 6 place setting tables. We are a party of two. No fear they just set you at a table with other couples to make a party of six. Don't picture Shogun, we all ate separately. So your food might be the only at the table with everyone else glaring at it. It was fun though!

After a tasty dinner, we just wandered around in amazement. This town is so clean, so pretty and everyone is pretty friendly.

It is two hours behind here and we are up at them this am. I will keep you posted!

At last, time for vacation!

Zach and I are getting ready to catch a ride to San Francisco. This is our 1 year wedding anniversary gift to each other. I have got it all planned out and we are so ready to go!

Zach is busying getting his managers in line today and then will work in the office tomorrow. I on the other hand will run around, as I can, clean and pack and get ready for a long day at work Wednesday. As soon as BMHCC lets me free we will be heading to Memphis to spend the night with Mom and leave bright and early on Thursday.

This trip has been booked since December and we are so thrilled to finally be going. Here are a few places you might see our faces in the next few days!

You might get a few updates along the way since it is near impossible for Zach to be without work email for a week. While he works, I will consider this blog to be my work! ;)

I year and going STRONG!

I apologize for this not being so timely but we have been busy bees here in Oxford. So on to the good stuff!!

Although it was not exactly as we had dreamed it would be, we finally celebrated our first year of marriage.

It still feels like it was yesterday. It was a perfect day with just the right amount of clouds in the sky and the perfect temperature. I don't think I could have hand picked a better day. I think my loving father was up there pulling a few strings! Everyone was feeling great!

Here are some "happenings" from the wedding day that you may not be aware of:

• I woke up at 8:00 and actually slept all night.


• I darted off to the tanning bed, like one day made a difference in this pale skin.


• I ate breakfast with Josh and Lisa at no other than Chick-fil-a.
  
• I had extensions put in my hair. I was really upset when they fell out the next morning...I loved them!


• I was the only one late for pictures- everyone was waiting on me! :)


• I ate 3 chicken nuggets from chick-fil-a for lunch and chugged a glass of champagne. whew, nerves!


• Zach and I met before the wedding.


• Zach cried before he even saw me. sweet guy!
  
• Zach sneezed probably 50 times in that first meeting---gotta love allergies.


• Waiting by yourself in the brides room is really not fun!
  
• The dove laid an egg during the wedding. It was suppose to be two male birds, the bird lady did not realize she grabbed the female.


• Col. Reb did not come out like he was suppose to and that was a complete shock to Zach.
  
• I did not get one bite of reception food after my mouth watered for it for months.


• Zach and I were going to learn a dance for our first but never had time. I know we were really boring ;)
  
• The birds, video, sonic drinks, helicopter were all a surprise to 98% of the people there.
  
• Zach and I left the reception and went straight to Taco Bell.


• Zach asked me in the airport as we were waiting on our honeymoon flight, "when can we have kids?"
  

So here we are a year later and loving life more than ever! I could not ask for a better husband and look forward to our life in the years to come!

Just a random bit of info

Everyone eats donuts. But the question is, what kind of donut do you eat?

From the day Zach and I got married, we go get donuts for breakfast maybe once a month. I always get whatever is filled with the real icing, not pudding. Zachary, on the other hand, gets strawberry with sprinkles. HAHA. Is this not any kids dream come true! I keep asking him why he gets them and he says, I dunno they are good. We adults, all know that sprinkles DO NOT taste. Which ever way you look at it, at least he still enjoys the simple things.
